The 144,000 is a belief that Jehovah's Witnesses hold that heaven is only open to 144,000 people.
It was supposed to sort of show how all these Christians support bush because of his supposed love for god, and although he loves god. he's a jehvoah's witness, and not a jim crow pentacostal type.
Global warming is an issue that people want to sweep under the rug. There's a reason why this extreme weather is taking place all over the world. People think they can take from mother nature and not feel her wrath in their lifetime.
To compound this, some scientists are now asserting that humans can't affect the earth enough to cause global temps to rise. (there was a story about this on CNN the other day...I think it was during Anderson Cooper's program)
I'm not a tree hugger or anything, but I am (or at least try to be) respectful of the environment. More people should do the same or else more of this type of stuff will happen.
watch 'Jesus Camp' and listen to the mother teach her children that "Global warming is just a political controversy made up by the liberals to distract us".
